Biografia

Wesley Yung is the former Director General of the Modern Statistical Methods and Data Science Branch at Statistics Canada, where he led a team of approximately 450 experts advancing methodological innovation, data science, and the modernization of official statistics. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has held progressively senior leadership roles across the agency, including Director of the International Cooperation and Methodology Innovation Center and Director of the Business Survey Methods Division.
A recognized expert in survey methodology, variance estimation, small area estimation, and the integration of administrative and machine learning methods into official statistics, Dr. Yung has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and international conference contributions. His research has helped shape modern practices in business surveys, statistical algorithm quality, non-response follow-up, and the use of administrative and tax data.
Dr. Yung holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Carleton University and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Honours) in Statistics from Dalhousie University. Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with national and international partners, contributing to the modernization of official statistics.
