Aquiles Farias

Aquiles Farias is Deputy Division Chief in the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he leads the Data Engineering Division and oversees the end-to-end lifecycle of the Fund's statistical data, from collection and processing to validation and dissemination. Over ten years at the IMF, he has become a leading voice on artificial intelligence and digital transformation in official statistics.

Aquiles created and leads Talk2Manuals, the IMF's first member-facing AI chatbot, which provides conversational, reference-grounded access to complex international statistical standards. He is also a co-lead of StatGPT, an AI access layer that translates natural-language questions into precise, fully traceable queries against official statistics, and helped shape the vision for a Global Trusted Data Commons. He also contributes to the STA AI Working Group, guiding responsible AI adoption and governance, and teaches Machine Learning for Economists to Fund staff.
